PTFE (Teflon)
PTFE is an acronym for Polytetrafluoroethylene. PTFE is a unique thermoplastic and is resistant to almost all corrosive chemicals, except for alkali metals. PTFE Virgin Grade has the lowest coefficient of friction of all materials and is ideal in applications where lubricants are not desirable as PTFE functions without any lubricants. It also has the widest working temperature range of all performance plastics, maintaining its key properties from -430°F to 500°F. PTFE is excellent for use in cryogenic applications as it shows no embrittlement. PTFE has very good sealing properties. It is not flammable unless in 94% oxygen environment. PTFE is an excellent insulating material. PTFE is not ideal in high wear abrasive applications or in high loading applications.
